Dreaming of a wedding with a bit of grandeur and opulence? Or maybe a modern venue just isn't want you've envisioned for your day. In this blog I've chosen 3 of my favourite historic castle and fairytale style wedding venues in the North East, covering County Durham and North Yorkshire
Redworth Hall
Originally built in 1693 by George Baker, Redworth Hall has witnessed centuries of stories unfold within its walls. From serving as a residence for prominent families to enduring the tests of time, the hall has evolved into the elegant estate we see today.
The Georgian-style architecture and meticulously landscaped gardens provide a captivating backdrop just perfect for a wedding wanting the romance of a historic building. Redworth Hall has been carefully restored, preserving its historic charm while incorporating modern amenities to create an atmosphere that seamlessly blends the old with the new (a spa is also on site!)
Imagine exchanging vows in the historic Great Hall, where the soft glow of chandeliers and the grandeur of the room create a magical ambiance as though it's lifted straight out of a fairytale. The hall's unique character adds a touch of regality to your special day, making it an unforgettable experience for both you and your guests. One of the hallmarks of Redworth Hall is its stunning 26 acre of grounds and woodlands, providing a picturesque backdrop for your wedding photography.
Here are some of my favourite things about Redworth Hall:
one wedding per day policy
dedicated wedding coordinator to help you plan your day
Redworth Hall toastmaster to run the day
complimentary 3 months membership to their health club before the wedding
Danby Castle Barns
Dating back to the 14th century, Danby Castle is set on the edge of the Yorkshire Moors and has got to be one of my favourite drives to a venue in the whole of the North East. I'll often choose to take the long way home just for the scenery which is also stunningly breathtaking from Danby Castle itself.
Not only are there stunning views into the valley, there are also historic castle ruins right on the doorstep, giving the opportunity for some beautifully romantic photos with the option to get married on the lawn of the grounds, with the Esk Valley and castle ruins as your backdrop!
Within the castle is the Court Room which is used for ceremonies and seats up to 90 guests, and then there's the barn, with original 14th century stonework and beautiful wooden beams, it's my favourite space of the whole venue
Some things I love about Danby Castle Barns
Dedicated getting ready room
Dedicated space for each part of your day - ceremony, drinks reception, wedding breakfast, bar and dance floor
Exclusive use
Can cater for up to 160 guests for the evening party
Pet friendly
Lumley Castle
Built in the 14th century, Lumley Castle has witnessed centuries of history, its medieval architecture creating a picturesque setting that transports couples and their guests to a bygone era. The castle's rich heritage and well-preserved charm make it a truly distinctive choice for a wedding venue.
If you've dreamed of a fairytale style wedding then Lumley Castle embodies everything you need. From their rooms fit for royalty, to entertainment from court jesters and sword fighting displays, and the beautiful grounds and courtyards, every detail feels magical here.
Lumley Castle has a number of options depending on the size of your wedding and can cater from intimate receptions, to up to 180 evening guests due to their five different function rooms, as well as the option to be married outside in the gardens.
Some things I love about Lumley Castle
Some of the best kept architecture in a wedding venue in the North East

Can cater from intimate to large weddings, with rooms suited from 6 to 180 guests
5 star service from a wonderful team
